An Interview with the Holy Spirit

“Hello, my name is Bart Williams with WBC and I am proud to announce the first ever interview with the Holy Spirit. I think all of us will learn something about who the Holy Spirit is and what spiritual role He plays in so many lives. We have asked Him to manifest Himself in the form of a talking dove so that we can have some visual reference to His presence. Oh, I see Him flying in now. Let’s move over to this bench and see what we can learn from Him.”

Bart moves over to the park bench and sits down. A pure white dove lands on the backrest of the bench. There seems to be a holy glow coming from the small beautiful bird.

“Well I am very glad you have allowed us to speak with you today. How should I address you? Holy Spirit, Mr. Spirit or just Holy?”

“Holy Spirit will be fine.”

“Well Holy Spirit, as I said, we are very glad you have set aside time from your busy schedule to answer our questions. We hope this doesn’t cause any problems for you or those you minister to.”

“It doesn’t cause any problems at all. I’m sure you are aware that I possess all the qualities of God so I am able to be here speaking with you as well as continue all ministries to the entire world at the same time. I’m omnipresent you see.”

“Omnipresent?”

“Yes God is everywhere at the same time and since I am fully God I have this attribute as well.”

“I see. That is awesome! So give us some of your history in dealing with mankind on the earth.”

“Well in the very beginning, Genesis tells of how I hovered over the waters. That was quite a creative process whereby God the Father and God the Son as well as Myself created all you see in creation.”

“Can you tell us how God did that?”

“It would blow your mind.”

“No really, could you give us some of the details?”

“I’m sorry, but it really would blow your mind. The complexities of details, balance, energy, forces of nature and the breath of life would literally be incomprehensible to you in your current earthly state. You will just have to wait like everyone else. Once Christians are in heaven and possess their glorified bodies they will be able to comprehend all that God has done, not only in the creation process but also in time and space.”

“Quite interesting. But share with us how you interacted with humanity through history.”

“Well there were many instances where I would fill a person for service to God. I filled Bezalel and he became a master craftsman of stone, precious metals, wood and bronze. I also filled Moses as well as the seventy elders of Israel. I filled Samson during times he was obedient to the Lord and I am sure you are aware that I filled numerous kings and prophets as they served God during Old Testament times.”

“Yes. I know of all the historical records in scripture and how you came upon men and women so that God could accomplish His will. Did you control them in this process and that is how they did marvelous works and wonders.”

“No I never control, I just empower. Anytime I fill someone for service it is always based on a relationship. God the Father, Son or Spirit will never force themselves upon people. When I come upon a man or woman of God there is a willingness on their part to be used by God. They desire to be a vessel through which God can work His will. Sometimes they are hesitant because they do not think they are able or they feel insufficient for the task, but that is often the very person God wants to use. Believe it or not, God is attracted to weakness. Those who feel adequate, sufficient or capable will often seek to serve God in their own strength and this gets in the way of how God works.”

“Fascinating.”

“Yes, but to continue. When a willing servant of God is chosen by God to accomplish a task or ministry I will come upon them and use their skills and abilities as well as their personality and gifts to accomplish the will of God. Without me the task could not be accomplished, but without them I would not be able to fulfill the will of God. People have no idea how important they are to God. God wants to use men and women to accomplish His plan for mankind.”

“So God has limitations.”

“I wouldn’t say that. I would just say that men and women are of supreme importance in God fulfilling His will. He chooses the weak so His strength and power can be seen and felt in this evil world.”

“Are there any other events in history where you played a significant role?”

“Well I would imagine one of the most important events was the birth of Jesus Christ.”

“I guess you’re right. How were you involved in that?”

“Well again, the complexities of how a virgin was able to give birth to a sinless child would overwhelm you, but all I can say is I did come upon Mary and enable her to give birth to Jesus Christ. I would say, that is the most important and critical event in human history.”

“I guess you were also present at the baptism of Jesus as well.”

“Yes that was a great day, when Jesus Christ was baptized. It was the beginning of His short but critical ministry that changed the course of human history and made possible the way of salvation for those who accept Christ as their Savior.”

“Since we’ve moved into the context of New Testament. Tell some of those in our audience how you function today. Do you still fill people for service? Do you live in everyone?”

“Unfortunately I don’t live within everyone. It is the desire of God that all men come to Him and accept His Son Christ as their Savior, but not everyone does. When someone accepts Christ as their Savior I immediately dwell within them.”

“Once you enter a person, what do you do?”

“Well my role is often subtle at first. I do not force myself upon their will. I will instruct them in how to live and will always speak to them in accordance with the words in God’s Holy Scripture. Many people claim that I direct them to do and say things, but unless it is in agreement with God’s Word it is not a valid action or statement. As the believer’s relationship grows with their Heavenly Father and Jesus it will also grow with Me as well. That is the reward for both God and the Christian, the interactive and continual relationship of fellowship between the person and God.”

“That has to be a unique relationship.”

“Yes, it is very unique and almost indescribable. God’s original intention for creating mankind was for fellowship. When that was destroyed by the entrance of sin into the world, God made it possible to reestablish the relationship that mankind had broken by sending His Son Jesus Christ. The heavenly intent of the Father, Son and Myself all along was for mankind to have the most intimate relationship possible, to fellowship with God continually.”

“How else do you minister to Christians as You live within them?”

“I give each of them at least one spiritual gift as determined by the God’s will. Some receive several gifts, but every Christian has at least one spiritual gift. I give these gifts so that they can be used to grow other Christians in their faith, minister to those in need and spread the gospel. I also intercede at times in the prayers of those who follow Christ. Sometimes men and women are at a loss for words in how to pray. During those times I will help them pray because they do not know how or what to say.”

“I’ve always wondered about the term ‘fruits of the Spirit.’ Can you share just a little about that?”

“Yes I can. The Father, Son and Myself are all part of the nature of God and possess the fruits of the Spirit. As a Christian grows closer to God, listens to my promptings and obeys the Holy Scripture, they become more and more like Jesus Christ. As this takes place, these same fruits of the Spirit that are possessed by God manifest themselves in the life of the Christian. They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

“I know Christians who at times commit sin. How does that make you feel?”

“I’m not sure if I can adequately put into words the depth of grief it causes me as well as the Father and the Son. We love each servant of Christ so much, beyond whatever they can fathom. It is deeper than any love you might ever have for one another. We know you in such detail, for we created each of you down to the smallest element of each cell and we fashioned your personality, your mind, your heart and yes, even your soul. For you to sin against us hurts us horribly because we know it will hurt you as well and those around you. I know I grieve deeply every time there is a sin committed or someone ignores my advice.”

“I’m sorry we do that at times.”

“Yes, but we still love you. We are so ready at any time to forgive you. That is the tragedy at times. People feel like God can’t forgive them, when in reality it is so easy for God to do so.”

“What is your relationship with those who don’t accept Christ as Savior?”

“Well I constantly minister to every single person in creation to come to a relationship with Jesus as their Savior. I am always seeking ways to bring each and every person to a point where they can experience the saving grace of God. Sometimes I must work in subtle ways and other times I must be rather blunt. Each person is unique and each person requires a different manner in which they might come to Christ. Unfortunately not everyone will choose eternal life. That also grieves me.”

“Well our time has run out. Is there a short statement that you would like share with our audience?”

“Seek the Lord. Live by His Word. Listen and respond to Me. Pray continually. Love one another. Remember Jesus Christ is coming back soon!”

With that said, the pure white glowing dove flies off into the sky. A beautiful rainbow appears even though there has not been a drop of rain.

“Be Filled with the Spirit.”
