BE A BEREAN TO STAND AGAINST FALSE TEACHERS

This is a sermon I gave at Valley Christian Fellowship. It covers the necessity of being like the Bereans spoken of in Acts, who questioned what they were taught to make sure they received only the truth of the gospel. The early church in the first centuries of its development was constantly exposed to false religions and deceptive teachings and still is today. This sermon covers what the scriptures have to say about false teachers, how it describes their character and their actions. It also discusses the errors of false teachers today. I end with some considerations as to how to prevent being taken in by the errors of false teachers and who we are in Christ. I hope you find the sermon helpful in your walk with Christ.

BE A BEREAN TO STAND AGAINST FALSE TEACHERS

Acts 17:11-12

“Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”

1 Timothy 4:1-2

“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.”

1 Peter 3:15-17

“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”
